Underrated Masterpieces: Scooby-Doo 2 Monsters Unleashed

Like Hotel Transylvania after it, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed is a perfect movie to watch with your children just before or during Halloween compared to the 2002 original Scooby-Doo movie, which nearly got away with an R-rating.

However, Monsters Unleashed stayed true to its Scooby-Dooby-Roots and completely ignored the events of the 2002 film. It is also the most family-friendly movie written by James Gunn, who was known for making Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.

There are many great aspects of Monsters Unleashed that improved over its forgotten predecessor such as the many monsters from the classic cartoon reappearing as not just costumes, including the new Cotton Candy Glob. Matthew Lilliard’s voice performance as Shaggy is so uncanny the Cartoon Network kept him as the voice of Shaggy years later.

While most people remember Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers who is a part of the Scooby Gang, that was taken from the Scooby-Doo cartoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar played Daphne to a neat and feminist take.

Scooby fans, kids and grown ups will always love Monsters Unleashed.
