Button Mashers: Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus

Sucker Punch Productions had yet to make an equally great game after Rocket: Robot On Wheels (1999) until Sony and PlayStation contacted them to do a relatable character like Crash Bandicoot (1996) or Spyro the Dragon (1998).

Thus, Sly Cooper and the Thievius Racoonus (2002) was born. It is about an orphaned raccoon who became friends with a smart turtle and a hippo who plans to take back his family’s book called the Thievius Raccoonus from the Fiendish Five, lead by Clockwerk. Sly was also caught up by Inspector Carmelita Fox, who has no time for Sly’s jokes.

The levels of the game take place in Paris, the Welsh Triangle, Utah, Haiti, China and Russia.

The unexpected success of the game helped give birth to two sequels by Sucker Punch and a third sequel by Sanzaru Gaming.

The game can be found on PS2, PS3 (as part of the Sly Collection) and PlayStation Now.
