Underrated Masterpieces: Titan A.E.

Titan After Earth (2000) is a vastly underrated animated film that has been among many box office bombs that had a great following including Jupiter Ascending (2015) and Valerian and the City of A Thousand Planets (2017).

This was directed by Don Bluth and had some amazing humor written by Buffyverse and Firefly (2002) patriarch Joss Whedon.

It is about Cale Tucker (Matt Damon), who became a part of a crew called the Valkyrie led by Captain Joseph Korso (Bill Pullman) and the pilot, Akima Kunimoto (Drew Barrymore).

The aliens featured in the film include Preedex Yoa (Nathan Lane), Gune (John Leguizamo) and Stith (Janeane Garofalo). The crew has to find a solution to rebuild Earth and stop the Drej, led by their Queen Susquehana (Christopher Scarabosio).

For Susquehana’s speech, she only spoke in the fictitious Drej language made for the film.

It is the rare animated film to have a human snap an alien’s neck on-screen, so Titan A.E. is clearly not for children.

Titan A.E. is a great film worth rediscovering.
