Insomniac Studios decided to take a less dragon focused risk on its hit game Spyro the Dragon (1998) with Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage (1999).
After defeating Gnasty Gnorc, Spyro (Tom Kenny) and Sparx were bored out of their minds and decided to go to Dragon Shores for a vacation from the rainy weather. However, they landed at Avalar, home to many new friends and enemies including Ripto (Greg Berger), a lizard who hates dragons.
While the game does not have dragons and dragon eggs to rescue, Spyro has to find talismans to get through other worlds and orbs to go to Dragon Shores after defeating Ripto.
The game was notable for introducing fan-favorite cheetah Hunter and the greedy bear named Moneybags, who always wants Spyro to give up his gems for an entrance or abilities. It also introduced Zoe (Mary Linda Phillips), a fairy who saves Spyro’s progress throughout the game.
Ripto’s Rage is a great improvement to an already iconic game and is completely worth playing with your children.
