Extra Extended Editions: Memorable Additions to the Desolation of Smaug

After the completion of both the Extended Edition of An Unexpected Journey (2012) and the original version of The Desolation of Smaug (2013), Peter Jackson supervised yet another Extended Edition with twenty-five minutes of extra footage with finished effects and music.

  • In the prologue, Gandalf discusses with Thorin about his battle with Azog.
  • More scenes of Beorn.
  • At the woods, Bilbo sees a white deer, where one of the Dwarves shoot at it.
  • At the Necromancer’s hideout, Gandalf encounters an elderly Thrain (Antony Sher).

The strongest of the Hobbit trilogy (2012-2014) is even stronger thanks to this Extended Edition.
