Timeless Classics: The Wedding Singer

Timeless Classics: The Wedding Singer

Another hit 1980’s throwback was made in 1998 in the form of The Wedding Singer (1998), with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore’s first collaboration, which took place in 1985.

Robbie Hart (Adam Sandler) has been singing in many weddings in New Jersey when he realized that his waitress friend, Julia Sullivan (Drew Barrymore) had been engaged to Glenn Gulia, which gave Robbie the chance to find a good song but not a depressing song inspired by the Cure.

The film had many references to A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984), Billy Idol and many popular trends of the 1980s, including songs sang by Adam Sandler’s character.

Jon Lovitz made a cameo as Jimmie Moore who later became the peeping tom at the tree in Little Nicky (2000) after fifteen years of failure.

The Wedding Singer was a very iconic throwback that it spawned a 2006 Broadway musical based on the film with new music besides Sandler’s musical numbers.

The Wedding Singer is a joyride to an amazing decade before the internet’s upsurge.
