Silent Shows: Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi

Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi (2004-2006) is those one of a kind television shows that was shown with minimal publicity. It is loosely based on a Japanese band called Puffy and have the actual singers in the beginning and end of nearly every episode.

Ami (Janice Kawaye) and Yumi (Grey DeLisle) are two Japanese women who have to do special concerts with their manager, Kaz (Keone Young). Some segments focus on Ami and Yumi’s pet cats, Tekirai and Jang Keng irritating Kaz. Since the real band is from Japan, the main characters speak Japanese once in a while when things get surprising. Instead of yelling “help”, one of them yells “tasukete”!

The series had thirty-nine episodes, with the last five being unaired in America. It also introduced me to my passion of the Japanese language and culture.

Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi is great for your children to get exposed to Japanese culture and the language.
