Terrific Television: Aqua Teen Hunger Force

Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro made an iconic cartoon to start Adult Swim: Aqua Teen Hunger Force (2000-2015). It is about three alive pieces of food and drink that live in New Jersey to complete hijinks and does require any episode to understand any other episode.

Master Shake (Dana Snyder) is the crude one, Frylock (Carey Means) is the wise one and Meatwad (Dave Willis) is the innocent one. The eleven minute episodes can be about anything, from a yellow dog who is brutal to the Aqua Teens’ neighbor by threatening him “Tonight… you” to a human organ to make his own spaceship, with a certain word relating to it used fifty times.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force was known for being quotable, especially the earlier seasons’ cold openings with C. Martin Croker as the voices of Dr. Weird and Steve the scientist. The series got a hundred and forty episodes, a banned episode, a feature film, a PlayStation 2 game and a spin-off pilot called Spacecataz.

Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro have revolutionized adult cartoons without the need to be satire or continuity related to a great effect. It is a great idea to test your hunger on the Aqua Teens if you are new to adult cartoons.
